After being mugged and having his wallet stolen in the street, a man entered the following entry in his journal: "First, I am thankful for never having met a burglar before today. Second, I am thankful for not having my life taken away. Third, although my money was stolen, I am thankful it was not a lot of money. Fourth, although I faced a burglar today, I am thankful that I am not a burglar to anyone." Such wise individuals do not waste their time grumbling and lamenting about the things of the past; instead, by leading themselves to be thankful in every affair of life, each of their days is filled with joy. "In everything give thanks" (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
