The Apostle Paul was a person of the elite. He received the best education available in his time and he was a man of great pride. As a believer in Judaism, he severely persecuted Christians with fervor. But he turned about making a complete change after meeting the Lord. He came to count whatever things were previously gain to him to be but rubbish. He demolished his strong self-respect saying he was the very least of all believers. Think about yourself before and after you believed in the Lord. When a person's heart changes the people around him can feel it. It's because as the heart is renewed the continence changes, and then the words and actions give out the fragrance of Christ.
