There is a western fable about an oak tree and a reed. It says that while an oak tree made a boast of its power before the wind, was up rooted and fell down. But a reed, which was under the tree, acknowledged its weakness and waited humbly, so it could survive. In this manner, people who brag and become arrogant of their little successes cannot maintain their success long. Those who are humble and wise know that all human lives are under God's control, so they ask God's help and are led to a more blessed life.
"God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble." (1 Peter 5:5)
