Generous people first look around neighbors and try to help the poor. But if they show others a favor without discernment, we can not say that they have truly generous heart. Those who have truly generous heart are able to discern the state and the heart of others and do by the truth. In John 8 of the New Testament, the teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery and tried to trap Jesus. However Jesus had mercy on her saying, Then neither do I condemn you although her sin was revealed. If she commits sin again for all His mercy, His generosity will not be worthy. So Jesus did not only forgive her but also asked her to leave her life of sin. He encouraged her to repent her sin and live in the light. There should be both of reward and punishment clearly in generosity itself. When you have this generosity, you can guide others to the right way.
