[Overseas Mission Report 4] Covering Latin America with the Holiness Gospel
Latin America Mission Report: Broadcasting Ministry through Enlace, the largest Christian TV Company in Central and South America; Peru Manmin Church; and the Ministry in the Alpine Regions
- Pastor Lazarus Lee (Missionary to Latin America)
Latin America includes the Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries in Central and South America. In December 2003, I was commissioned to Latin America as a missionary. I established the mission center in Honduras and started the missionary works. After the Peru Healing Crusade with Dr. Jaerock Lee held in December 2004, I relocated the mission center to Peru. For the first year, I led seminars in the morning and held handkerchief meetings in the afternoon. In Latin America are 34 countries, not including the small island countries. However, I thought it would be impossible for the holiness gospel to reach the entire Latin America if I spread the gospel in the traditional way. Then one day, God showed me a vision. There was a huge reservoir that was spread out like an ocean. I scooped the water in the bucket and poured it out in different places. I repeated this again and again. I wondered when I would be able to distribute all the water with the small bucket. At that moment, I made a waterway with a stick and then water started flowing along the waterway. 'Yes, this is it!' The answer was a mission through broadcasting.
* Broadcasting Ministry through Enlace, Latin America's Largest Christian TV
In 2005, I had 'The Message of the Cross' one of the famous Dr. Jaerock Lee's sermon series dubbed by Brother Aldo Guido. I visited Christian TV companies in different countries with the Spanish-dubbed DVDs. I was given strong confidence that I could spread the holiness gospel throughout all of Latin America through the broadcasting of Dr. Jaerock Lee's sermons. I first visited without any plans. On my flight to Costa Rica, Enlace TV came to my mind all of a sudden. I thought I could have a connection with TBN Enlace TV at the Costa Rican pastors' meeting. Just as I had imagined, I had a chance to meet the President of TBN Enlace TV on the day of the meeting. He already knew well about Dr. Jaerock Lee through the 2002 Honduras Miracle Healing Crusade and 2004 Peru Healing Crusade. First, I introduced 'The Message of Cross' and suggested to the President that the television network broadcast the 24 sessions of 'The Message of the Cross' and assured him that he would experience blessing if he planted by faith. He accepted this with pleasure. So, the sermons began to be broadcast for an hour every Sunday morning. From then on, the television stations received many phone calls from viewers expressing thanks. Certainly, there was a significant change in my ministry after the broadcasting. TBN Enlace (President: Jonas O. Gonzalez) is the largest Christian TV in the Central and South America covering the most of the countries in Latin America. The Spanish-speaking people living in the United States can also watch its programs via TBN Enlace USA and Dish Net. It is satellite and cable Christian TV which is broadcast 24 hours via 8 satellites and covers the 56 nations through over 5,000 broadcasting stations in Central and South America. The audible population is about 150 million and the TV features webcasting service as well. The audible range is the entire Central and South America, the entire Caribbean Sea, North America, Spain, Portugal, Northern Africa and the Middle East. In addition, JBN TV (President: Esteban Handal) is aired via NSS 806 through 2,500 broadcasting stations in Central and South America. The audible range is North America, all of Central and South America and some European countries. In addition to 26 radio stations (some of them include TV companies), he is expanding the TV and radio broadcasting ministry in several countries. Many people who listened to Dr. Jaerock Lee's sermons through broadcasting are longing to read the Spanish versions of Dr. Jaerock Lee's books.
* Seminars and Handkerchief Meetings Continued through Broadcasting
In Colombia, a sister named Sylvia listened to Dr. Jaerock Lee's message through TBN Enlace TV and told her pastor about it. Later, at the request of the pastor, a meeting was held and 400 pastors and church workers. Usually, at the seminars or meetings, we first show the attendees 'The Power of God' DVD and during the intersession, we show them the video of our church's anniversary service performances. Pastor Francisco Loor, who attended the seminar held in Ecuador, after watching the performance video, said, "It's amazing that a church can have this kind of great performance. I want to visit the church myself." He is ministering to the biggest church in Ecuador and running a TV company. Apostle Jorge Marquez who is ministering a large church in Uruguay confessed, "Only with the holiness gospel, we can change the world." As of today, 1,010 churches have registered as branch and associative churches in Latin America through the broadcasting ministry.
* Peru Manmin Church and Ministry in the Alpine Regions
On December 4, 2005 the Peru Manmin Church was founded. In answer to my prayer, Pastor David Jang was commissioned to Peru as a missionary. His wife Deaconess Hyangsook Kim is taking care of the flock and his two sons Chan-yang and Chanmin are in charge of filming during the Sunday Evening Service, and his youngest daughter Jihyun is on the dance team. I am so thankful to God for his family that is a big strength in my ministry. At the Sunday Morning Service, we offer worship service with the DVD-recorded service of Manmin Central Church and at the Sunday Evening Service, I and Pastor David Jang are taking turns preaching sermons. Also, we have Daniel Prayer Meeting and Wednesday Evening Service. In Peru, Pastors don't visit their members. So when we tried to visit the members, some of them even asked why we had come. One member was very touched saying that it was the first time he was visited by a pastor in his 25 years of Christian life when Pastor Jang visited him. Also, when Pastor Jang went to the funeral of an old woman, who was our member, her family welcomed him very happily sprinkling flower leaves over him. Even other church members envy our members saying, "This is the true church that takes good care of its members!" In addition, through the handkerchief on which Dr. Jaerock Lee prayed, the members are experiencing healing of diseases and receiving solution of problems. People living in Cerro de Pasco, an alpine region of Peru located at 4,800 meters above the sea level, can't watch TV. They can listen to radio, but they can't tune in programs broadcast from Lima, the capital city. For this reason, I visit the radio stations located in the alpine regions with tapes or CDs of Dr. Jaerock Lee's sermons. I once got to lead a handkerchief meeting in Cerro de Pasco. When I arrived there, I began to suffer from splitting headache with chills. I vomited and felt dizziness and couldn't even breathe properly. The number of sick people who had gathered at the meeting was over 1,000. So, I asked for Dr. Jaerock Lee's prayer. After receiving his prayer transcending space and time, I successfully preached a message, led a repentance prayer meeting, and prayed for all 1,000 sick people that had gathered for the meeting, with the handkerchief. A major portion of them were healed and I myself was very impressed to see the work of God. These are only a small part of what is happening in my ministry. I can't write all the works of the Holy Spirit that God has manifested. I am looking forward to the day when the holiness gospel reaches all of Latin America with the works of the Holy Spirit. I will keep on running again and again to expand that boundary.
